Adelaars

Dance film “Adelaars” is based on a dance composition by the same name, created by Ján Ševčík and inspired by Mongolia’s historical ritual dance. This dance, performed by shamans, typifies the birth and flight of an eagle as a metaphor of the circle of life: the genesis from conception to death. The dance, originally demonstrated by men, is replaced by feminine principle, because woman is the bearer of life, filling it with love and protection. This never-ending love demands all her humility and dedication. Finally, the film expresses immortality of the human soul, which takes off in a form of eagle after death. Enchanted by beauty of the dance composition, especially by depth of message that it brings, I wanted to maintain all these ideas and to deepen them by the aid of particular film language. I didn’t just intend to take three dancers from a theater stage and place them somewhere on location, shoot them dancing from diverse points of view, from long shot to close-up, and then to put it together in an editing room. I wished to make a real dance film, where words “dance” and “film” are equal.
